Hi again,
I was just wondering what you thought about the Clarinet workshop at Tanglewood (if anything) because I got into it for this summer, but don't know much about it.
thanks :)

Patty- I apologize for my rudeness in not responding to your comment. How sad that the orchestra's choice was the wrong one. I wonder if there was some kind of manuvering behind the scenes to "make" it fail. That's the kind of thing we're trying to make sure DOESN'T happen here in Columbus.

clarinet girl- I can't really give you a clear answer since I don't know your talent for music. I can certainly say that having more time to practice is better, considering how competitive the music world is these days. But all the practice in the world cannot create a good sense of rhythm or pitch or musicality. So homeschooling is a risk, if it means you will not have the proper courses to major in something else, if that ends up being necessary. On the other hand, I know someone who is homeschooled, and he has NO problems with succeeding in university classes.

Good luck to you. Thank you for writing your comment. I hope you achieve all your dreams.

Sincerely,
David Thomas

I would like to be a professional clarinetist when I grow up, yet I feel as if I don't have enough time to practice (45 minutes a day at the least, 4 plus hours at most.) I am 16 and I have the oppertunity to homeschool part time for the remaining years I am in high school. I am not going to take a lot of the classes that my teachers say "colleges like to see". I'm thinking that since I want to be a performance major they won't really look at whether I took three years of foreign or not, but am I right in thinking that? If I homeschool I will have a lot more time to practice. I would really appreciate a professionals view on this (I've talked to my private teacher and he thinks that it's a good idea).
Thank you

(p.s. I go to see the CSO perform all the time and I have met you...)

May it go better for you than it did for us in our now dead symphony! We insisted on a certain conductor. It was, I'm sorry to say, our death wish.
