Terrell Robinson in York, Pennsylvania. Temp Services is making it every hard find a real autocad position. Temp Services sucks and that not real jobs.
Do anyone else feel the same way? I can't provide for my family working at a temp service. Michael in Carlsbad, California. Terrell Robinson in York, Pennsylvania said: Temp Services is making it every hard find a real autocad position. I agree, I'm out here in California and was hired by a temp agency.
Although I was thatnkful to have a job, they overworked and underpaid me I hope that companies stop using these temp services I am thinking of getting into this profession but maybe the answer is to reduce the demand of positions.
What are your thoughts of a person getting into Architectural Drafting , considering the position of the global economy? Your Thoughts. Michael in Oceanside, California. I started my own architectural drafting business in At the end of , everything changed due to the economic downturn. I too have worked for a temp agency and as stated before, overworked and underpayed What are we to do??? We need to work so we have no choice.
I now have been fortunate enough to get some small residential additons based off of my previous clients Architectural drafters are not in demand right now but hopefully everything goes in cycles We are slowly seeing more construction and general public have put the remodeling plans on hold until the economy comes back Hang in there and do what you can.
One day we will be in demand again. As for Temp agencies If we stopped working for them and get hired directly from the companies Pursue your dream, if drafting is it John in Catonsville, Maryland. Bob, you are so very right. I can not even find a temp position and will wind up losing my house I will have health insurance but will starve to death out in the cold Mark Keth in Chicago, Illinois.
I have been a Cad drafter for over 30 Years. I was laid off from my job and haven't been able to find a job for three years. I have applied to job recuiters but no luck finding jobs.
James B. COP put me thru a 2 weeks course on how to get a job and write a resume. They say your resume should only go back 10 years. Have you tried a college class to bring your skills current? You'd be better off becoming an architect. If your are an engineer and you don't know anything about cad rather than calculation is useless but could just be a document engineer, secretary whatever out of in the designing.
You can't submit a design if without drawing in the city to get permit. Cad is very useful to any company even real estate, it is a based for presentation that explain a thousand words if you have drawings, also that the only way that they can approved with seal or stamp for documents and construction guide. Without drawings doesn't explain your plan verbally, ii is guaranteed that the drawings with measurements could be happen everyday too, like measuring and estimation.
Most of all, marked my words to all who want to put up a business need a cad team, make sure that they can a afford to pay the right salary specially to the engineers with cad skills, with lots of experience should pay higher, so or better not to put up a business if you can't pay the right salary, cad is very useful and important as I'm doing now. Based on my experience I master using cad for 5 years, now I'm 20 years still keep on using to my job as engineer with a good pay and good company, its flexible, it depends also how you use it.
The best also for 3D. Dontbelieveit in Crazyhorse, Indiana. In everyday our lives we need some help from the manufacturer to provide what we need like foods, etc. They always create and think better products comparing that rises to the competitors, in order to produce it, they need something to design a product such as packing the products, cases, etc. In the production for the automation needs to design or redesign with the flexibility of using cad drafting, without cad they maybe not to create it.
I'm explaining the creativity that we need to improve our products just to help our country survive. We need to create something to help our country through the help by designing a product using cad software.
This is the problem to the manufactures they don't believe using cad drafting, but using cad may help their needs and should pay higher too. I was working in the construction , gov't projects including bridges, utilities, structural, architecture , mapping, product presentation, and more, because of this cad software I took a lot of opportunities to get a job.
This may depend also to your expertise about cad, if you really know how to work it I'm enjoying my job as cad designer. Steven in Independence, Missouri. I would be thankful just to get a temp job in CAD. There's nothing out there right now.
JPL in Medford, Massachusetts. I got into the CAD drafting profession 1. I graduated from a drafting program just 1 year ago. To tell the truth, I almost did get a chance with a structural engineering firm but I told them I wanted part time and they weren't having it.
Even at my current job I can't get part time and I've seen co-workers ask for it and get denied. So of course they left the company. Which brings me to my next point, Other than knowing the type of drawings the firms wants you to do i. HVAC designs, site civil, masonry, woodframe etc. I really think that's some bs. I applied for a company where my former school instructor told me they would test me. I had a phone interview.
No test and barely a callback. But I did hear from the recruiter and she told me, you guessed, it gotta have 2 years professional experience with ACAD. So this is where I'm at right now, trying to get a job using ACAD but I'm stuck at my present job using microstation making drawing I don't even like.
Yep, I've been on 12 interviews. They all said "just get more experience and you're golden" Eff that!!! NancyB63 in Chicago, Illinois. I have 10 years experience and I can't find a CAD job to save my soul. I lost the job I had in and have spent the last 6 years doing nothing but the occasional contract.
No one wants "drafters" anymore. They want BIM modelers The definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over but expecting a different outcome. Therefore, I am insane.
So as soon as this contract is finished I'm removing myself from all of the job boards I'm in and looking for a job locally with some sort of construction supply outlet. I'm tired. I'm exhausted from trying over and over and over again to find work and not succeeding.
I'm tired of going home after a contract is done and crying my eyes out because they didn't take me on as "contract to hire". To anyone out there who wants to be a CAD drafter , forget it. Become an engineer. That's the only way you'll get hired. Are you serious? People who are out of work and aren't finding a new job typically don't have money to attend classes. Most of these people go severely in debt just paying for housing and food. But it seems that some people here are living in a fantasy world.
JPL in Malden, Massachusetts. It's like we're living the same life NancyB To tell you the truth, I don't even think an engineering degree will help. Engineers are having trouble too. The engineering industries atleast for the civil disciplines are changing with such a powerful tool like BIM.
With a simple keyboard function, we can easily change items 2 and 3 to become sub-items 1. The traditional method is to use your mouse, but that means you have to pause while typing and then focus on using the mouse. Highlighting To highlight a group of words, hold down the Ctrl and Shift keys at the same time, and then use the left or right arrow keys which will highlight an entire word each time you press an arrow key. It is a materials list for a typical road cross-section note the values listed are in millimeters. I disagree.
Autocad sucks. Post a question. Get an answer.
Since then, it has become an intuitive and intelligent in-place document editor. The purpose of this article is to go beyond the basics. As you probably know, MText has the ability to create number lists of selected paragraphs within the editor. But did you know that you could create sub-listings? Take a look at the example in Figure 1. It is a listing of some general notes, numbered 1 through 5 that you would see on a design drawing.
With a simple keyboard function, we can easily change items 2 and 3 to become sub-items 1. Then, you can simply change the new item 3 to restart as a separate item 1.
See Figure 2. While in the text editor, place your cursor at the beginning of item 2 and press the Tab key on your keyboard. Do this for item 3 as well, and you will see how items 2 and 3 become sub-set items 1. Note: If you no longer wish for an item to be indented as a sub-list, simply put your cursor at the beginning of the text and hold down the Shift key on your keyboard followed by pressing the Tab key. While in the text editor, to restart a numbering sequence, place your cursor at the beginning of the text to be renumbered, click on the pull-down button for Numbering Lists and Bullets; and select Restart.
You can control the location and width of text within the documents with indents and tab stops just as you can in any word processor. To control which text is to have indents and tab stops, simply highlight the desired text, and then drag the indents i.
To insert a tab-stop, simply click your cursor where you need a tab stop. Refer to the notes in Figure 4. It is a materials list for a typical road cross-section note the values listed are in millimeters. We can even use a tab stop style that allows all the numbers to be right-justified. To insert and set up different tab stops while in the MText Editor, simply click repeatedly on the tab-style box until you get the desired tab stop style, and then click on the ruler bar where you want the tab style to be located.
Then it is only a matter of placing your cursor in front of the text, and pressing the Tab key on your keyboard to shift the text accordingly. In addition to manually assigning tab stops, you can predefine them within an MText object as well simply by right-clicking on the ruler and selecting Paragraph from the pop-up menu.
Decimal Tab — All numerical text with a decimal value e. This way, all the decimal points will line up vertically in the list. In addition to decimal separators, you can also use a comma or space as a separator. Figure 7 is an example using the decimal tab stop.
Notice how the decimal points line up perfectly regardless of how wide or narrow the numbers are i. To quickly adjust the boundary box so that it confines itself to the perimeter limits of the MText object, simply double-click on the width adjustment arrow that is next to the ruler bar. See Figure 8. Bently is definately up there though for Plant and Infrastructure though too.
I disagree. I can create a fully renderable Model of anything from a building to a truss in short order and show it rendered with materials, shadows, reflection etc. I think it depends on your discipline and whether or not you are part of a team or working independently as I do. I even get positive feedback from the structural engineers when I export the 2D file for their backgrounds and it is perfect, not some strange conversion from a non AutoCAD program.
So manufacturing, civil, structural, mep, architectural all have their own best application. Small industries they are satisfied with the use of Autocad. The cost of the Autocad is less compared to the other high end software. Everyone in the field of Mechanical Engineering having the knowledge of understanding the 2d drawings. I hate to say it, but AutoCAD is your best bet. I took an AutoCAD class last semester, and honestly, it's not that hard. Solid Works. I just dont think it's the right tool for Architecture anymore. If it was any worse, it would be Microstation. I have used AutoCAD since version 2. Over the years I have seen a lot of growth in the platform. Acad arch is a BIM platform just as much.
It can produce dynamic schedules, elevations, details and sections. It is also a much more stable product than Revit with a much more solid graphics engine. Revit is just too heavy for what you get from it. I was a power ACA user prior to learning Revit Much like ACA it can suit the needs of small to complex projects according to your needs.
Either way as long as your utilizing BIM your on the right path ;-. Thanks dude. I also work in Revit and Civil 3D, etc.
I am getting to like Revit in some ways. It has definite power in its object data. It will be interesting to see what the future holds for Civil 3D and Infraworks and how those platforms will evolve as both have been around for a while now. I heard others talking about Forge.
I have found Civil 3D to be a very powerful program that many people misunderstand and under utilize. Civil 3D is intimidating Both are very powerful platforms.
From what I understand limited at this point forge brings all platforms together to share data.. I'll have to learn more and blog about it ;-. Here is a link to a colleagues recent Blog post about her troubles with AutoBad. Check it out! Labels: AutoCAD ii.
