Verified by Psychology Today. Emotional Fitness. When tenderness is removed from a relationship, with it goes a sense of security.

What takes its place is the reminder that our humanness will somehow evaporate in its absence. Here are ten tips for tenderness that will help you to keep it.

T - Tender actions mean being gentle with the ones you love. Many people resort to "brutal honesty," and that can make it impossible for someone who is in a sensitive place to hear what is being said. E - Emotional communication truly comes from the heart, with no thought of winning or taking control.

If you've had a rough time, be patient and constant. Give all you can, and trust that your overtures will be returned. N - Notice how your mate is feeling. Sometimes we get so caught up in our own mini-dramas that we don't even notice when the person we love is feeling hurt or overwhelmed. A kind word at the right time can make the difference between a good day and a bad one. D - Develop a code, something that only the two of you share: a secret way of touching, a special word that means "I love you," or a look that says everything.

These are the things that make a relationship. E - Easy does it. Anyone who has ever had a bruise knows it stays tender for a while. If you've hurt one another, go slowly and be caring as you search for a way to meet in the middle and heal your wounds.

R - Respond with consideration rather than condemnation. It's easy to make the other person wrong, but when it's someone you love, you're actually chipping away at the foundation of your relationship. N - Never be mean to your mate. If couples would refrain from doing damage to each other's self-worth , there would be a major drop in the divorce rate. I would like nothing better than to be put out of business as a marriage counselor because there are too many happy couples.

E - Entice your partner to be romantic. Set the mood as early in the day as possible. If you want to have a romantic evening, it's best to begin before you get out of bed in the morning.

S - Sympathy isn't a sign of weakness. On the contrary, it is a symbol of your willingness to connect with your mate in a way that he or she can find nowhere else in the world. S - Safety is an important part of making your partner feel more comfortable being tender with you.

Many people are afraid that their offerings of compassion will be thrown back in their faces, a fear that makes it seem safer to withhold tender actions. The song "Love Me Tender" didn't become a classic just because Elvis sang it. We all want to feel that emotion come our way. If you've avoided this level of intimacy or withheld it, it's time to reconsider your actions. Life is so short, let yourself give and feel at a level that will make you glad to have been alive.

I have asked you to examine yourselves and see whether you are wanting in devotion to the ever-blessed Paternity [tender Fatherhood of God ]. You will not be right until you see God as your loving, tender Father. This must be your primary image of Him. Many of you reading this post are wonderful, loving dads, but God the Father is the very perfection of such qualities and infinitely so.

Faber states in All for Jesus :. You must get clear of this. You must cultivate a filial feeling toward Him. You must pray to the Holy Spirit for His gift of piety, whose special office is to produce this feeling…. You will never be right until your view of God as your Father swallows up all your other views of Him….

Faber says we need to work on developing a filial relationship with God the Father — not just to talk about it. We need ongoing devotion to the paternal tenderness of God the Father. Whatever method you may choose, Faber contends that doing so is of considerable importance, calling it the master thought of all our spiritual actions.

And Faber was an expert on how the saints loved God. The language of faith thus draws on the human experience of parents, who are in a way the first representatives of God for man. But this experience also tells us that human parents are fallible and can disfigure the face of fatherhood and motherhood.

We ought therefore to recall that God transcends the human distinction between the sexes. He is neither man nor woman: he is God. Some can relate to Andrew being the prodigal child who returned home; some can relate to Hannah's experience with domestic violence. Most can relate to the internal struggle over forgiveness. Everyone has felt fear. Gail Gaymer Martin weaves a multi-faceted story covering struggles so many people face. Dec 29, Marissa rated it it was amazing. Loving Tenderness is the reason that got me hooked in reading; the first romance book I've read.

I even sent a letter to Gail via mail and she wrote back to me! Isn't she sweet? I loved it so much! It's a really good story the author did a really good job writing it I had to keep reading chapter After chapter and find out what's going to happen next because it made me want to turn the page to see what happened.

May 12, Charline Bonham rated it really liked it Shelves: inspirational , romance. Hannah has divorced her abusive husband but he will not leave her alone. Andrew rescues a woman and her little boy one rainy night and takes them to the shelter. As there lives become entangled, he's not sure how to handle the situation and Hannah does not trust. Jul 01, Julia rated it liked it Shelves: z-format-book , romance-love-inspired.

It has a truly wonderful end that brings out the emotions or at least it did for me but the rest of it really seemed like the same old story repeated for yet another time with a few tweaks. Honestly also I feel that although the characters were on the average side they could have been made stronger. Instead writing in their weaknesses and trying to get the compatible it seemed that the characters were a bit on the weak end of things while I know that Andrew definitely could have been one great character but instead it seems more thought was put into his brother than into him.

I also didn't like the way that Hannah seemed to respond to mostly all the situations that she found herself in. Some I can agree may have been a bit more like what one would see but some of the others Although she was a mother, she more often seemed like she was petty or not planning ahead thus making everyone go into danger without a care besides her own seemingly unselfish needs or desires.

All in all for those who like this book it makes for a quick and somewhat enjoyable read. Otherwise I don't know whether you would want a recommend or not. Jul 04, Veronica rated it liked it Shelves: inspirational-romance. I liked this book but I don't think I'll read it again. The storyline was unexpected based on the book jacket description but it was well written. I think how Martin wrote the love story between Hannah and Andrew was sweet. Forewarning: The underlying story is kind of dark.
