Kate Payne and Drew Meyer are both passionate and fearless fighters in our local fight against breast cancer. With their leadership, we know May 5, , will be the best Triangle Race for the Cure yet! Continue reading below to see why Kate and Drew are the perfect duo! Faced with the prognosis of six months to a year to live, Nancy went on to battle for six years as a pioneer in experimental treatment and research.
The positive result opened access to early screening tools for Kate. At the age of 31, seven weeks before her wedding, she was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was the testing and the early mammograms that helped doctors find her cancer — DCIS, stage 0, the earliest possible catch.
After two failed lumpectomies, Kate and her husband canceled their honeymoon so she could have a bilateral mastectomy three days after her wedding. The surgery declared her cancer free and just two and a half weeks later, she walked in the 20th annual Susan G. Komen Triangle Race for the Cure. Following her incredible experience at that event, she joined the PR and Fundraising Committee for the race and is honored and excited to serve as co-chair for the Triangle Race for the Cure.
Kate works as the vice president of communications at the North Carolina Chamber, a nonpartisan business advocacy organization. A graduate of Elon University in Elon, N. Drew Meyer has been supporting the Race for the last five years. First as a participant, then worked the next year on the Parking and Transportation Committee. After that, he co-chaired the Committee and the last two years was solely responsible for parking and transportation at the Frontier Center.
He currently supervises the Youth In Transition Team; 5 staff members focused on providing life skills education to middle and high school age youth involved with or in foster care, juvenile court, and homelessness. About Breast Cancer.
